Finding 34x36 Jeans is Difficult - A Solution

Went looking for 34x36 jeans last week and it was more difficult than ever to find something. Here is how it went. First I find a style that I like, for me, I am looking for material that is not to heavy, and I want them relatively soft. I also want a nice fit, not to tight. Then I search for 34x36 and get so frustrated when there is absolutely nothing! I then see the big and tall section and it is really just big, nothing in a 34 waist, argh, should have known better, never find 34 waist in big and tall. So now what do I do? What do you do?

Here is what I suggest. Choose the correct waste size, try on a 34x34 or even 34x32, forget about the length. If you like everything but the length, make a note of the brand and style then go home and search the Web. Unfortunately this takes some preparation, you need to take along a pen and piece of paper, but this does reduce "impulse buying" and you will likely save a few bucks. Online you will have a better chance of finding the right length and when they arrive, you know you will be happy with the fit, feel and look because you already tried them on.

I walked into a JCPenney's store and loved the selection of jeans but nothing 34x36, but when you go to their online store there is a great tool that lets you select your waist and inseam and I found a HUGE selection of 34x36 pants and 34x36 jeans. It is like a candy store. I am seeing more Websites that do this, let you select your inseam and waist size and then show results that match.

Looking for 34x36 Pants again

Well, it has been some time since I went looking for 34x36 pants. A couple of my 34x36s have seen better days so I am back on the hunt. If  you have had success finding 34x36 pants please share here. Always looking for some good deals or new stores, online or brick and mortar.

Some 34x36s are starting to get a bit tight. I refuse to go up a size. It is time for me to get more serious about exercising often and eating better. Pants tight at the waist are a signal to lose a few pounds, not a signal to buy larger pants. Not all pants fit the same however. Have to admit that I am reaching the limit of what loose fit 34x36 is offering. Good luck on your efforts to stay slim as well.

And don't get me started on shoes. Went shoe shopping a few weeks ago. Try finding a 12 1/2 shoe size, forget about it. Online maybe. So we can't settle for 12, too tight. And 13s can be a bit loose but our only choice. Shoe outlets are thumbing their nose at us, figure that we will settle or go elsewhere :-(. Brands do make a difference though. Some 13s fit just fine and some 12s fit just fine.

Will also be updating links below as well and making notes on last verified.

Why its so hard to find 34x36 pants

Its all about the numbers guys. Stature chart.

95% of boys at the age of 20 years old are under 6 ft. 2 inches (74 inches). So, assuming that we don't grow any taller after 20 years old, which I believe is true, the height number holds up for adult males as well (though the weight numbers certainly do not).

Assuming that those 6 ft 3 to 6 ft 5 can wear a 36 inch length pants, that may be only about 2% of the population (since there are likely equal numbers at the bottom of the chart) . Then you take that 2% remaining and try to determine how many of those have 34 inch waist. With our overweight population I am sure that you can say that at least 1/2 of those are above a 34 inch waist. And on top of that there must be a number of teens and others that have less than a 34 inch waist. You are then left with about 0.5% of the male population at my guess, and that might be generous.

So if you are a retailer and have limited shelf space or $$ for online inventory, what would you do? I am just thankful for those that even offer 34x36 and I hope that our collective online numbers can be a market that will justify some focus and expanded options.

J. CREW has 34x36 Tall Pants - Chinos and dress pants (online store only)

Nice to see that the folks at J. CREW have an entire section for Tall Men only. Not just tall AND big, but tall. Sites like these are hard to find. The tall dress pants are on the expensive side. Wish I could comment on the quality but I don't have any. 3 different types of Chinos all priced at $59-$65 34x36 dress pants range from  $158 to $225. My guess is that they are pretty high quality. Will try to get hold of some and let you know. (Prices reflect 25-Nov-13).

Grand River Classic Jeans, 34x36, $62 to $73

Old Navy, a brick and mortar with 34x36 pants - but...

OK, I have to give some love to OLD NAVY, they are one of the VERY few stores that I can walk into and buy 34x36 pants right off the shelf. We are talking Khakis here, but hey, that is still pretty great when compared to most other stores that I have walked into. Be warned however, not all Old Navy stores I've walked into have 34x36, but your chances are "good" at least.

Also, their prices are right. I don't feel like I am being discriminated against because I am tall.
